Upgrading former Bayva's networks cost up to $800mln

JSC Azenerji together with executive power bodies is registering consumers of distribution networks acquired from Bayva,Trend reports with reference to Azenerjis release. All categories of consumers in 46 areas will have been provided with counters by the end of 2006. te counters are installed at Azenerjis cost.

To restore these networks, Azenerji received a credit in the international Bank of Azerbaijan and Societe Generale bank. The company purchased 10,000 counters in Kazakhstan at this amount.

JSC officials said Bayvas networks are not yet in full possession of Azenerji as liquidation commission of the Ministry for Economic Development is still working on them. However,

from March 2006 the company is running Ganjaelektrikshebeke and Alibayramlielektrikshebeke networks.

Alongside the purchase and installation of counters, Azenerji intends to upgrade local networks, replace outdated transformers, high voltage lines, damaged supports and insulators.

The release says Bayva planned to invest nearly $200mln in this project. However, JSC representatives say, the project will take some 3-4 times as much.

At the moment JSC employees are implementing new cable technology system that prevent hacking lines and counters. It is an expensive technology but it must prove itself in a short run. Experimental cables have already been laid in Shamkir.
