Rovnag Abdullayev, the President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), advised Trend that the Russian Company LUKoil is studying in detail the seismic data, obtained during the exploration of Yalama field (D-222). As a result of the study, the Company intends to define the drilling of a new exploration well.

Abdullayev said that the exploration period has been delayed for the Company. Earlier the representatives of LUKoil Overseas Holding Ltd. notified SOCAR's management on their intention of drilling the second exploration well on D-222 bloc.

During the drilling of the first exploration well on Yalama, LUKoil did not find the reserves to be economically viable. The well was drilled with Heydar Aliyev drilling rig to the depth of 4,500 meters from the drilling point at 332 meters. During the drilling using the zero-return system, a show of gas was observed.

SOCAR and LUKoil signed a Production Sharing Agreement on the D-222 field on 3 June 1997.
