Азербайджан, Баку /корр. Trend С.Алиев/ German company Wintershall, which signed a memorandum on Mutual Understanding with the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) on the development of Ashrafi field can drill an exploration well to clarify the reserves, SOCAR announced. Experts state that Heydar Aliyev rig can be commissioned fin drilling activities.
At present preparations for operations on Ashrafi field are underway. During the exploration work it is planned to clarify hydrocarbon reserves and develop a business schedule.

Earlier, work in this field was ceased due to finding of unreasonable volume of hydrocarbon reserves by foreign companies.
A Production Sharing Agreement on Ashrafi -Dan Ulduzu prospective fields was signed on December 14th 1996. The participants in the project are BP - 30%, Unocal - 25.5%, Itochu - 20%, Delta Hess - 4.5% and SOCAR - 20%.
