Issue of Increasing Carrying Capacity of BTC Discussed in Baku

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. I.Khalilova / At their March 15th meeting, the Board of Directors of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Pipeline Project (BTC) discussed the issue of increasing opportunities to transport oil via BTC. The Executive Director of BTC Co, Rashid Javanshir, said that there is hope to bring the carrying capacity of the pipeline to its design capacity of 1 mln barrels of oil per day.

According to Javanshir, the present maximum capacity of BTC is 620,000 barrels of oil per day. "We need to increase the pumping stations' output to the pipeline's full design capacity," he said. According to Javanshir, additional finances are not intended for outfitting pumping stations to accommodate gas.

Preliminary information states that the pipeline's design capacity of 1 mln barrels of oil per day will be achieved in April.
