SOCAR Expects Reducing Forecast on Gas Production from an Azerbaijani Condensate Deposit in 2007

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend , corr I. Khalilova / Rovnag Abdullayev, the President of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan), has said today that the third well on the Azerbaijani offshore gas condensate field of Shah-Daniz is expected to be put into operation in the first decade of May, 2007.

According to him, the second well on the field is currently operating in a normal working regime.

"We done some attempts to repair the first well without raising the column, but the gas escape went on. Therefore, due to the safety and security, the operators of the project do not want to put it into operation again," said Mr. Abdullayev.

Touching the issue concerning Azerbaijan's supplying Shah-Daniz gas with Georgia, the SOCAR President said that this country still received 1 mln. cubic meters of gas per day.

The preliminary volumes of gas production from Shah-Daniz in 2007 have been expected at the level of 5.8 bln. cubic meters.

"The actual volumes are expected to exceed just 3 bln. cubic meters of gas, despite of the high gas production rate from the well. Any way, we have believed in the high production rate, but due to the known troubles and irregularities occurred on the first well, the volumes, unfortunately, will be lower than we expected," said R. Abdullayev.
