SOCAR to Complete Construction of Own Terminal in Georgia in Summer, 2007

Azerbaijan, Baku/ Trend corr. S. Aliyev / Mukhtar Babayev, the Chief of the Marketing and Economic Operations of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan), has said that the construction of the Kulevi Terminal on the Georgian coast of the Black Sea, which belongs to SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) is expected to be completed in summer, 2007.

SOCAR also has intensions to construct a oil refinery plant there. The Georgian Government has allotted about 200 hectares more in addition to 100 ones acquired within SOCAR's purchasing the Kulevi Terminal.

The capacity of shipment of the uncompleted oil terminal is 10 mln. tons (2 mln of crude oil, 3 mln. of diesel fuel, and 4 mln. tons of mazut). The aggregate capacity of the reservoir park of the terminal is 320.000 cubic meters. The capacity of shipment of the terminal is expected to increase up to 15-20 mln. tons per annum, as well as increase its reservoir park up to 380.000 cubic meters. By four railway lines, 160 tank-wagons may be accepted by the terminal. The construction of the approach canal and three mooring lines has already been completed.

There are a laboratory considered for checking oil and oil production to meet the international standards and mobile small fleet consisting of 9 auxiliary service vessels at the Kulevi Terminal. The reconstruction activities have commenced in the terminal. The works on laying railway, which will be the ownership of SOCAR, as well as special piers considered for gas shipping, are currently underway.
