Washington Interested in Transporting Hydrocarbons from Middle Asia to Europe via   Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend / The Minister of Industry and Energy of Azerbaijan, Natig Aliyev, met with the U.S. Vice President's Deputy Assistant for National Security Affairs, Joseph Wood.

The statement of the Ministry says that the meeting focused mainly on Europe's energy security. Aliyev informed Wood of Azerbaijan's ten-year oil policy and stressed that during the period of rapid competition for energy corridors, Baku considers it important to support Washington in ensuring the region's energy security.

Wood said that Washington is interested in transporting hydrocarbons coming from Middle Asia to Europe via Azerbaijan.

In addition, Wood stressed that the USA is holding intensive talks with Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan in this regard and highlighted the necessity to expand Azerbaijani-Turkmen co-operation. Wood called on both countries to commence constructive and open talks and that he considers that real chances appeared in Ashgabat to begin talks.

Moreover, the meeting covered the prospects of the Nabucco project. The Minister said that Azerbaijan is also interested in participating in talks in this regard.

Aliyev considers that it is high time to carry out concrete work in this direction. Azerbaijan offers to soon sign an agreement between the partner-countries for brining the project to realization.
