Project on Increase of Energy Exchange Between Azerbaijan, Iran to be Implemented by End of 2007

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr S. Aliyev / Iranian Sunir company is to complete the implementation of the project on construction of 'Salyan' substation, which will enable increase of energy exchange with Iran from present 200 MW up to 700 MW, by the end of this year, the Vice-President of the Azerenerji JSC, Marlen Askarov, reported. The construction work is in progress.

A credit at the amount of $75mln was allotted (85% by the Iranian Export Cooperation Bank, 15% by Azerbaijani Government) for construction of high-voltage power lines and substations by the Iranian side.

In order to amount energy exchange to 700 MW power lines with the capacity of 330 KW will be extended between Alibayramly hydroelectric power station and Imishli region, as well as between Imishli and Parsabad, power lines with the capacity of 220 KW will link Alibayramly hydroelectric power station and Salyan region, Salyan and Masally, Masally and Astara. A modern Salyan substation will be constructed and another four substations will be expanded. Total length of the power lines will make up 350 km. According to the estimations of experts, implementation of the projects will enable supply of 150 MW of energy power to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, and 400 MW to Azerbaijani energy system in winter.
