Realizing Trans-Caspian Pipeline is of Interest to Region: President of Georgia

Georgia, Tbilisi / corr. Trend N.Kirskhalia / The President of Georgia, Mikhail Saakashvili, said at an energy summit in Istanbul on 26 June that the construction of Trans-Caspian pipeline is of interest for the region, including Russia.

" Moscow states that the implementation of the Trans-Caspian pipeline is not realistic, but that does not correspond with reality. Formerly the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline was also unrealistic, but presently it is a reality," the President said. The President of Georgia assured that the Trans-Caspian pipeline will be beneficial to everyone. "Mostly it is of interest to Russia because a healthy competition in the energy market is necessary for Moscow," Saakashvili said.

He stressed that energy cooperation of the regions of the South Caucasus and Middle Asia has broad prospects.

"It is future that may become real and bring new dividends," Saakashvili considers.

The President of Georgia expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for the energy cooperation that assisted Georgia in diversifying energy sources.

"Our cooperation may be an example to many people in the region," he said.
