Entec to Submit Interim Report to Azerbaijan on Introduction Alternative Resources of Electron Energy

I.Khalilova / The Azerbaijani Government has reported that the consultant of the Asian Bank of Development (ABD) - Switzerland-Indian consortium Entec, will submit the interim report on introduction of alternative resources of electron energy to the Industrial and Energy Ministry of Azerbaijan by 3 August. The report will envisage the main directions of the project. Artur Alex has been in Baku for development of the report.

The development of the final report will be commenced after agreement the document with the Government, by the mid of September 2007.

ABD has already started preliminary consultations with the Azerbaijani Government on financing the project by ABD.

ABD is ready to allocate $50mln for implementation of the project. The budget will be expended for construction of small hydroelectric power stations in the country.

The consultant holds examinations to define different ways and potential for development of renewable resources of electron energy through the grant budget $900,000. Some $200,000 of them was allocated by Finland, $500,000 - АBD and $200,000 - Azerbaijan. Signing of the grant agreement was held in 26 May 2006. Technical assistance is considered for 10 months.

About 100 alternative resources of electron energy will be constructed in Azerbaijan within five years. Depending on capacity of the construction of one small hydroelectric power station is assessed from $600,000 to $1mln for 1 megawatt.
