Oil&Gas Materials 3 August 2007 11:34 (UTC +04:00)

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend / Azerbaijan and Iran energy specialists will hold a meeting in August to discuss a project to construct an electric power station on Araz River in Ordubad District of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Azerenerji announced.

Previously, both parties co-ordinated the terms of the construction of the frontier power station in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. The project involves the construction of two power stations (one in Azerbaijan and the other in Iran) on the bordering Araz River in the Ordubad District of NAR.

The construction of the border power stations involves the construction of stations with a similar capacity. Azerbaijan intends to build a power station with a capacity of 45 MW. The parties made a resolution that once Iran builds power stations of a similar capacity, Azerbaijan would construct one in its own territory. Earlier Azerbaijan and Iran agreed to construct power stations on the Araz River. They agreed upon the construction of two power stations (one in each country) with a capacity of 45 MW, Ordubad Hydro-Power Station ( Azerbaijan) and Marazadagh HPS ( Iran). The water resources of the river will be shared equally.
