Botas Completes Work to Lay Gas Pipeline with   Greece : General Manager

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend / Huseyin Saltuk Duzyol, the Chairman of the Council of Directors and General Manager of Botas, stated on 3 August that the Turkish Botas company has completed work to lay a gas pipeline on land, which will transfer gas to Greece. According to Duzyol, the construction of the pipeline along Mirinch River will be completed on 6 or 8 August.

Currently, work is being done on the Greece section of the pipeline. The German DEPA company is responsible for the construction of the pipeline. "The term for transference of the gas will be defined after the pipeline is completed," Duzyol said.

The laying of the Turkish-Greece pipeline is a part of the project to transport gas via Turkey-Greece-Italy, in compliance with an agreement signed by Ankara and Athena. Italy, Turkey and Greece signed an agreement on the construction of the pipeline which will transfer gas from Middle Asia to Europe from 2011. In compliance with the agreement the pipeline connecting Turkey with Greece, will begin operations from September 2007 and construction of the pipeline between Italy and Greece is scheduled for 2008.

The pipeline between Greece and Italy with 212 km length will be able to transfer 11.5bln cu m of gas to Greece. The transported gas will be exported from Middle Asia countries.
