Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend I.Khalilova/ In October KEPKO, a South Korean company, will present to the Ministry of Energy and Industry of Azerbaijan a feasibility study on the construction of a private power station powered by gas on the basis of a memorandum signed in April 2007, said Ramiz Rzaev, the Director of Investment Policy and Reconstruction of Industrial Enterprises Department of the Ministry.
He said that the budget for the project will be established after the development of the feasibility study. Some $1bln is required for such projects, if equating to world experience.
The location of the station is still to be determined, but only one Thermoelectric Power Station with a capacity of 700 MW will be built.
At present, all electric power stations in Azerbaijan are powered by mazut, until 2007 they were powered by gas imported from Russia. However, all stations were changed to mazut power following the cessation of Russian gas import.
