Trend:

The Tashkent Metallurgical Plant (TMP) will release the first cold-rolled sheet in December 2019, Trend reports with reference to the press service of the company.

The total project cost exceeds 286 million euros. The MetProm group of companies has been selected as the general contractor for the construction of the TMP. Nowadays, it is one of the leading design and construction organizations in the metallurgical industry in Russia.

"A year and a half ago, we started work practically from scratch, and now we are finishing construction and assembly work on the main building of the future domestic giant of metallurgy. Preparatory work is underway, including pouring the foundation for auxiliary facilities that will provide the main production with water, gas, nitrogen, hydrogen, compressed air. At this stage, we are coordinating the issues of choosing equipment suppliers for completing the entire auxiliary complex,” technical director of MetProm, Valery Osin said.

He states that the supplier of the main equipment is one of the three leading in world market companies - the Italian Danieli.

"The needs of the local market for steel metal products were studied at the feasibility study stage. Therefore, the plant's capacity - 500 thousand tons of cold-rolled metal per year provides for maximum coverage of Uzbekistan needs," he said.

The production will reach full capacity within two years of manufacture; the planned share of exports will be 20 percent of total production.

Export is envisaged to such countries as Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. There is no such production in most of these countries and the demand for rolled metal products is significant. The enterprise will compete with Russia and China by entering these markets.

In general, the launch of the plant will contribute to the development of related industries, such as the construction sector, automotive and household appliances.

Foreign company SFI Management Group is managing the construction project of Tashkent Metallurgical Plant. It also manages the state’s share in other flagships of Uzbek industry, the Almalyk MMC and Uzmetkombinat.
