Azerbaijan sees increase in number of POS terminals

The number of payment cards increased by 17.8 percent in Azerbaijan as of late January 2020, compared to the same period in 2019, reaching 7.7 million, Trend reports citing a statistical report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

The majority of the cards (6,900) are debit cards, with 2,700 being social cards, 2,350 salary cards, and 1,800 other cards. The number of credit cards stood at 829,000 as of end January.

As of February 1, 2020, there were 2,659 ATMs in the country, of which 1,438 were in Baku and 1,221 were in other cities and districts of the country. The total number of ATMs has increased by 12, or 5.5 percent, since the beginning of 2020.

The number of POS terminals in the country was 68,804, of which 41,917 were installed in Baku and 26,887 in other cities and regions of the country. Since the beginning of 2020, the number of POS terminals in Azerbaijan has increased by 1,336, or 2 percent.

Also, in December 2019, there were 3,700 people per ATM in Azerbaijan, and 150 per POS terminal. On average, 2,300 transactions worth 483,200 manats were made per ATM. The average volume of one transaction per ATM was 212.1 manat.

Over the same period, an average of 44.3 operations per 2,900 manat were carried out on a single POS terminal. The volume of one operation in the POS terminal was 65.5 manats.
