Kuwait Fund for Economic Development helps Uzbekistan to implement medical project

The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development will provide Uzbekistan with a $23.1 million loan to implement the project "Equipment of medical institutions of Uzbekistan providing urological and hemodialysis assistance," Trend reports citing the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan.

The total cost of the project, implemented from 2020 through 2022, is $29.1 million. The contribution of Uzbekistan is $5.9 million, including in the form of tax and customs benefits for $4.4 million.

KFAED loan in the amount of seven million Kuwaiti dinars, equivalent to $23.1 million, is provided for 26 years, including a four year grace period.

The Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan is the executive agency responsible for the targeted use of the loan and effective implementation of the project, while Ozmedimpeks is the contracting partner. Costs related to maintenance and repayment of the loan are covered from the state budget, the document said.

A project implementation team, of five people, will be formed within a month. The Health Ministry is to organize and hold a tender for the selection of a consulting company and purchase of medical equipment and supplies and create all the necessary conditions for the implementation of the project.
