Retail trade turnover in Azerbaijan grows

The cost of products sold in Azerbaijan’s retail network amounted to 9.2 billion manat ($5.4 billion) from January through March 2020, exceeding the indicator of the same period of 2019 by 1.2 percent, Trend reports referring to Azerbaijan’s State Statistics Committee.

The turnover of products, drinks and tobacco products amounted to 4.8 billion manat ($2.8 billion), non-food products – 4.4 billion manat ($2.6 billion), the cost of sold products, respectively, was 2.9 percent and 0.5 percent more than from January through March 2019.

For the reporting period, the commodity market was characterized by the following indicators:

Some 45.1 percent of the funds spent by buyers (of consumer goods) accounted for food products, 5.5 percent for drinks and tobacco products, 16.7 percent for textile products, clothes and footwear, 5.7 percent for furniture and electrical goods, 2 percent for the purchase of motor fuel, 1.6 percent for pharmaceutical and medical products, 0.7 percent for computers, telecommunications equipment and printing products.

Some 17.7 percent of the total value accounted for other non-food products from January through March 2020.

Around 23.7 percent of consumer goods were sold by trading companies from January through March 2020. Individual entrepreneurs accounted for 47.8 percent, markets and fairs – 28.5 percent of the specific share.

The retail trade turnover in real terms increased by 28.5 percent for enterprises, 1.1 percent for individual entrepreneurs and 11 percent for markets and fairs from January through March 2020 compared to the same period of 2019.

The average monthly turnover of retail trade per capita from January through March 2020 amounted to 309.4 manat ($182) or 10.8 manat ($6.3) more in nominal terms than from January through March 2019.

The average monthly volume of the sold food products per person amounted to 162.1 manat ($95.3), non-food products - 147.3 manat ($86.6) in 2019.
