Significant increase of monetary base observed in Kazakhstan

The value of Kazakhstan’s monetary base amounted to 8.6 trillion tenge ($20.01 billion) in Mar. 2020, which is 25.5 percent more than at the beginning of the year, Trend reports with reference to the data of Kazakhstan’s National Bank.

Value of Kazakhstan’s monetary base has also increased by 35.3 percent compared to Feb. 2020.

“The narrow reserve money equaled 6.4 trillion tenge ($14.9 billion), which is 19.2 percent more than in beginning of the year. The narrow reserve money has increased by 21.1 percent compared to Feb. 2020,” the report said.

“In turn, the value of currency in circulation stood at 2.3 trillion tenge ($5.3 billion), which corresponds to the value as of the beginning of the year, but is 3.9 percent more than in Feb. 2020,” the statement said.

M1 money aggregate increased by 4 percent since the beginning of the year and amounted to 6.1 trillion tenge ($14.2 billion), whereas M2 money aggregate increased by 2.2 percent and equaled 16.4 trillion tenge ($37.9 billion).

“The broad money value amounted to 22.5 trillion tenge ($52.2 billion), which is 5.9 percent more than in the beginning of the year. Broad money value has also increased by 8.6 percent compared to Feb. 2020,” the report said.

The gross international reserves of Kazakhstan’s National Bank amounted to $29.9 billion in March 2020, bank’s preliminary data said.

According to the data, the value of country’s international reserves increased by 0.2 percent compared to last month and by 3.4 percent more than of the end of 2019.

International reserves overall, i.e. including the foreign currency denominated assets of the National Fund ($57.4 billion), equaled $87.4 billion as at the end of March 2020.
