Money transfers to Kazakhstan suffer big drop

Some 133,100 money transfers worth 25.9 billion tenge ($62.5 million) were carried out in Kazakhstan (figure includes transactions within and from Kazakhstan) using international money transfer systems in Apr. 2020, which is 41.1 percent less in volume and 46.7 percent less in value than in Mar. 2020, Trend reports with reference to the data of Kazakhstan’s National Bank.

A total of 88,500 money transfers worth 22.4 billion tenge ($54.1 million) were sent from Kazakhstan abroad. Compared to Mar. 2020 this is 50.4 percent less in volume and 46.4 percent less in value.

The majority of money transfers was sent to Russia (38,200 transfers worth 8.4 billion tenge or $20.3 million), Uzbekistan (32,300 transfers worth 7.1 billion tenge or $17.2 million), and Turkey (3,600 transfers worth 2.1 billion tenge or $5.07 million).

In turn, a total of 54,100 transfers worth 12.5 billion tenge ($30.2 million) were sent from abroad to Kazakhstan. This is 52.1 percent less in volume and 48.1 percent less in value than in Mar. 2020

The largest number of money transfers sent to Kazakhstan account for Russia (22,100 transfers worth 2.8 billion tenge or $6.9 million). Russia is followed by South Korea (7,000 transfers worth 3.09 million tenge or $7.4 million) and Germany (6,000 transfers worth 665.2 million tenge or $1.6 million).

The number of transfers made across Kazakhstan amounted to 44,600 transfers worth 3.4 billion tenge ($8.4 million) in Apr. 2020. This is 5.5 percent less in volume and 5.4 percent less in value than in Mar. 2020.
