Japan to provide financial assistance to women in rural areas of Uzbekistan

The Japanese government will provide $3 million in financial assistance for the economic empowerment of women in rural areas of Uzbekistan amid the coronavirus pandemic, Trend reports citing the Japanese Embassy in Tashkent.

About 3,500 women living in Fergana, Jizzakh and Kashkadarya regions will be able to receive training, so financial services and business opportunities will become more accessible for them, the message said.

Implementation of the project is expected to help 300 small and medium enterprises get funds for business and create 1,500 new jobs.

In addition, in the context of the pandemic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) plan to provide Uzbekistan with personal protective equipment, artificial lung ventilation, digital X-ray diagnostic equipment and others .

"The total amount of this grant has not yet been determined, but if the abovementioned support in the field of labor in the amount of $3 million is included, it can be up to $10 million or more," the message said.
