Coal railway cargo transportation up in Kazakhstan

Over 100 million tons of cargo were transported by railways in Kazakhstan over first five months of 2020, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan Railways.

The overall loading of the Kazakhstan Railways network amounted to 20.7 million tons in May 2020, which is 2 percent more than during the same month of 2020.

Some 7.7 million tons of coal were transported in May, which is 13.5 percent higher compared to the same period last year. This includes 5.3 million tons of coal, an increase of 24 percent. Some 2.4 million tons of coal were exported.

Transportation of grinding products for export increased by 16 percent in May, of non-ferrous ore and sulfur raw materials by 25 percent, chemical fertilizers by 6 percent, ferrous metals by 9 percent. Over 630,000 tons of grain were also transported.

Operational freight turnover amounted to 19.1 billion ton-kilometers net in May, which is 4.3 percent more than during the same month of 2019.

The five months results said that freight turnover reached 92 billion net ton-kilometers, which is 3 percent more than during same period of last year.

Some 101 million tons of cargo were loaded over first five months of 2020. Including, 42 million tons of coal, which is 3.3 percent more than during the same period of 2019, as well as 3.5 million tons of grain.

Transportation of ferrous metals increased by 10 percent, non-ferrous ore and sulfur raw materials by 15 percent each.
