Corporate securities transactions rise in Azerbaijan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 6

The total volume of corporate securities transactions on the Baku Stock Exchange (BSE) amounted to over 955.1 million manat ($561.8 million) from January through May 2020 against 172.7 million manat ($101.6 million) in the same period of the last year, Trend reports referring to the BSE data.

As a result, the total volume of operations carried out in the first 5 months of 2020 increased by 5.5 times, year on year.

Among the conducted transactions, seven transactions worth 77.2 million manat ($45.4 million) were conducted in the primary market, which is 72.5 percent more than from January through May 2019. Four of the transactions were conducted with mortgage obligations totaling over 75.2 million manat ($44.2 million) - a growth of 86 percent.

As many as 878 operations totaling 877.8 million manat ($516.3 million) accounted for the secondary market of public securities. The share amounted to 91.9 percent of the total amount and 99 percent of the total number of corporate securities transactions.

Moreover, 670 stocks worth over 7.2 million manat ($4.2 million) were sold on the secondary market, which is almost 8.4 times more year on year.

REPO transactions on corporate securities amounted to 36.4 million manat ($21.4 million) showing an increase of over five times. In total, 25 repo transactions on corporate securities were carried out at BSE from January through May 2020, which is exactly 3.5 times more than during the first five months of 2019.
