Some $121.9 million accounted for foreign trade operations between Azerbaijan and France from January through May 2020, which is 3.1 times less than in the same period of last year, Trend reports on June 19 referring to the statistics bulletin of the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee.

The export of Azerbaijani products to France from January through May 2020 amounted to $54.8 million, while a year earlier - $255.8 million.

Thus, France purchased the products from Azerbaijan from January through May 2020 by five times less than in the same period of the previous year. France’s share in the total export of Azerbaijan also decreased by about two percentage points from 2.97 percent to 0.79 percent of the total volume.

The import of the French products to Azerbaijan decreased by almost twofold, declining year on year from $121.4 million to $67.1 million.

France’s share in the total import of Azerbaijan also decreased by about 0.5 percentage points, from 2.08 percent to 1.61 percent.

In general, the ratio of export-import in foreign trade relations between the two countries from January through May 2020 has become more balanced and shifted towards import.

So, the overbalance in the foreign trade relations was observed in export - 68 percent and 32 percent from January through May 2019, respectively, while the ratio of export and import from January through May 2020 amounted to 45 percent and 55 percent, respectively.

Thus, the balance of foreign trade turnover between the two countries during the reporting period became negative and, decreasing by $146.6 million, amounted to $12.2 million.

In general, Azerbaijan’s foreign trade turnover amounted to $11.1 billion from January through May 2020, which is 22.9 percent less than in the same period of 2019.

The balance of foreign trade turnover on an annualized basis increased by 0.9 percent and remained positive, amounting to $2.8 billion.
