Payment card turnover increases in Azerbaijan

The debit and credit card turnover through ATMs and POS terminals in Azerbaijan amounted to 2.3 billion manat ($1.3 billion) in May 2020, which is 18.6 percent more than in May 2019, Trend reports referring to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

According to the CBA report, total number of transactions with payment cards amounted to 18.2 million transactions (an increase of 45.4 percent) worth 2.3 billion manat ($1.3 billion) for the reporting period, including 1.6 million transactions worth 72 million manat ($42 million) outside the country.

The number of transactions with debit cards (both domestically and abroad) reached 15.8 million transactions worth 2.2 million manat ($1.3 million), of which 7.3 million transactions worth 1.7 million manat ($1 million) were carried out using ATMs in Azerbaijan, and 2.6 million operations worth 178,000 manat ($104,705) via POS terminals.

In May 2020, bank customers carried out 2.4 million transactions worth 133 million manat ($78.2 million) via credit cards (both domestically and abroad).

Meanwhile, 204,000 operations worth 33 million manat ($19 million) were carried out using ATMs within the country, and 1.04 million operations worth 55 million manat ($32 million) were carried out using POS terminals in the country.
