The number of payment cards increased by 23.5 percent in Azerbaijan as of late June 2020, compared to the same period in 2019, and reached 8.6 million, Trend reports citing a statistical report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).
The majority of the cards (7.7 million) are debit cards, with 3.3 million being social cards, 2.4 million - salary cards, and 1.9 million other cards. The total number of debit cards went up by 20.7 percent.
The number of credit cards stood at slightly over 949,000 as of late June 2020.
As of July 1, 2020, there were 2,554 ATMs in the country, of which 1,339 were in Baku and 1,215 in other cities and districts of the country. Since the beginning of 2020 to July 1, the total number of ATMs has increased by 30, or 1.1 percent; however, due to liquidation of AtaBank, Amrahbank, NBC Bank and AGBank it went down by 78 as of late June.
The number of POS terminals in the country made up 55,631 units, of which 35,559 were installed in Baku and 19,305 in other cities and districts of the country.
Since the beginning of 2020, the number of POS terminals in Azerbaijan has increased by 3,659 units, or 5.4 percent, but because of revoking licenses from the forenamed banks it sharply dropped by 11,837 (17.5 percent) at the end of July.
