Online retail turnover in Azerbaijan doubles

The value of products sold in retail trade networks in Azerbaijan amounted to 21.4 billion manat ($12.5 billion) in the period of January through July 2020, which is 2.1 percent less than the same period of 2019, Trend reports citing the reporting data of the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan.

According to the Committee, trade turnover of products, beverages and tobacco products amounted to 11.5 billion manat ($6.7 billion), which is two percent more than in the same period of 2019. Trade turnover of non-food products totaled 9.9 billion manat ($5.8 billion), which is 4.3 percent more than in the same period of 2019.

E-commerce turnover doubled in the period from January through July of 2020, compared to the same period of 2019.

In the first seven months of 2020, 48.6 percent of the funds spent by buyers (of consumer goods) were spent on foodstuffs, 14.1 percent on textiles, clothing and footwear; 5.4 percent on furniture and electrical appliances, as well as on automotive fuel; 5.2 percent of total spending was on beverages and tobacco products, 1.8 percent on pharmaceutical and medical products, and 0.8 percent on computers, telecommunications equipment and printing products. Other non-food items also accounted for 18.7 percent of the total.

About 23.1 percent of consumer goods were sold by trading companies in the first half of 2020. Individual entrepreneurs accounted for 50.5 percent, while markets and fairs for 26.4 percent.

Compared to the first seven months of 2019, retail trade turnover in real terms increased by 11.8 percent for enterprises, 0.4 percent for individual entrepreneurs and decreased by 15.4 percent for markets and fairs.

The average monthly retail trade turnover per capita in the period from January through July 2020 amounted to 306.4 manat ($180.2) or by 1.3 manat ($0.7) more in nominal terms than for the same period of 2019.

Average monthly volume of sold food products per person for the reporting period amounted to 164.9 manat ($97), and non-food products amounted to 141.5 manat ($83.2).
