Uzbekistan boosts gold sales

Uzbekistan exported 3.2 billion worth of gold in the period from January through July 2020, Trend reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

In July 2020, Uzbekistan received $1.1-billion revenue from gold sales, compared to $2.1 billion during the previous six months. The share of gold in the country's total exports reached 39.8 percent, while in 1H2020, the exports of gold accounted for 33.8 percent of Uzbekistan's total exports.

During last five years, Uzbekistan significantly boosted gold exports: from $823.9 million in 2015 to $738.2 in 2016 and $1.6 billion in 2018.

According to the Central Bank of Uzbekistan, gold reserves of the country increased by 7.5 percent in July 2020, compared to July 2019.

The statistics of International Monetary Fund (IMF) show that official gold reserves of Uzbekistan accounted for 342.8 tons as of August 1, 2020. According to the fund, gold reserves made up 60 percent of all reserves of Uzbekistan.

Gold hit $1,944 per ounce in the world market on July 27, beating its previous record of $1,921 set in 2011.
