Russia to invest in modernization of power generation field of Uzbekistan

The modernization of the power units of the Syrdarya thermal power plant in Uzbekistan will be carried out with the support of the VEB.RF loan, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Energy in Uzbekistan.
As part of the official visit to Uzbekistan of the delegation of the Russian Federation, headed by Igor Shuvalov, Chairman of the state development corporation VEB.RF, negotiations were held between the Minister of Energy in Uzbekistan Alisher Sultanov, and the Russian delegation.
As Sultanov said, opening the meeting, VEB.RF of Russia (VEB.RF) is well known as an important partner of Uzbek companies in the implementation of investment projects in the field of power generation.
Currently, five projects with a total value of €297 million ($350 million) are being implemented in cooperation, of which VEB.RF's loan funds amount to €146 million ($172 million) in the field of hydropower. Among these projects is the modernization of the Tupolangskaya HPP, Construction of the Nizhnechatkalskaya HPP, Modernization of the Farhad HPP.
With the support of the VEB.RF loan, the Syrdarya TPP's power units are being modernized on a turnkey basis. The total project cost amounts to €143 million ($169 million).
The head of VEB.RF emphasized the effectiveness of cooperation with the Uzbek side and the importance of further development of business partnerships in the fuel and energy complex of Uzbekistan.
The parties discussed promising projects for expanding cooperation in various areas of the fuel and energy complex, as well as presented projects in the field of oil and gas chemistry. These include new projects in the field of hydropower to modernize existing facilities: Modernization of the Topolangskaya HPP, Construction of the Nizhny-Chatkalskaya HPP, as well as the construction of the Farkhodskaya HPP.
The attraction of financing from VEB.RF for the implementation of the program to increase the production of hydrocarbon raw materials was also discussed at the meeting. The project customers are Uzbekneftegaz JSC and Natural Gas-Stream JV LLC.
Another area of partnership is the project on the implementation of automated control and accounting system for natural gas (ACASG) in Uzbekistan.
