Uzbekistan considers reducing import rate of duty-free products

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 9

By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

The Ministry of Finance proposed to reduce the rate of import of duty-free products to Uzbekistan by five times, Trend reports referring to the discussion of draft legal documents portal in Uzbekistan.

The proposal is stipulated by the draft decree of the head of Uzbekistan "On measures to drastically reduce the shadow economy."

The document approves the proposal to reduce from January 1, 2021, the maximum rate of import into the country of goods arriving at the address of an individual in international courier shipments that are not subject to customs duties, upon the first receipt within one calendar quarter from $1,000 to $200 and gross weight no more than 10 kilograms.

Earlier, the State Customs Committee stated that in the international courier shipments a large amount of commercial cargo, sent under the guise of a parcel "for personal use" is revealed to evade customs payments. These goods do not meet the criteria "for their own needs" and are intended for sale on the domestic market of the country.

The customs officers noticed that to conceal commercial goods imported in international courier shipments, a batch of similar goods is divided into several parcels with other goods enclosed in them for cover.

According to the current procedure, the maximum norms for the import into the country by an individual of goods that are not subject to customs duties are set in the amount of $1,000 for one calendar quarter for goods arriving at the address of an individual in international courier shipments and $100 for goods arriving at the address of an individual in international mail.
