A total of 120 trillion rials (about $2.85 billion) worth of investments were made to the purchasing of agricultural machinery in Iran over the past seven years (the current government has been in power in Iran since 2013), Director of the Iranian Agricultural Equipment Development Center Kambiz Abbasi said, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Iran.

According to Abbasi, about 130,000 tractors, 7,000 rice transplanters, 3,800 combine harvesters and 280,000 units other equipment were purchased with the making of the investments during the reporting period.

“Furthermore, the loans worth 14.6 trillion rials (about $347 million) were issued for the purchase of agricultural machinery during the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 20-September 21, 2020),” he added.

The director stressed that the issuance of loans has been increased about 3 times compared to the same period last Iranian year. Thus, 5 trillion rials (about $119 million) worth of loans were issued to purchase of agricultural machinery in the same period last Iranian year.

Abbasi noted that despite economic restrictions and the spread of the coronavirus epidemic about 8,000 tractors were delivered to farmers within six months.
