Nearly half of bank deposits in Azerbaijan made in foreign currency, says CBA

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 27

The total deposits made by the population in the capital city and regions of Azerbaijan amounted to 7.87 billion manat ($4.6 billion) as of early Nov. 2020, which is 940.8 million manat ($553.4 million) or 10.7 percent less than in the same period of 2019, Trend reports citing the statistical bulletin of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

According to the CBA, nearly 10.25 percent of the issued loans accounted for the regions. Some 47 percent (3.7 billion manat or $2.1 billion) of the loans were in the national currency.

Slightly over 7 billion manat ($4.15 billion) of the loans were issued in Baku. At the same time, 3 billion manat ($1.7 billion) or 42.6 percent of total lending in Baku fell on loans in the national currency.

The average annual interest rate on loans in Azerbaijan as of early November 2020 amounted to 3.14 percent, and in Baku – 3.04 percent.
