Turnover on payment cards in Azerbaijan grows

The turnover on debit and credit cards through ATMs and POS terminals in Azerbaijan amounted to 2.47 billion manat ($1.45 billion) from January through November 2020, which is 17.5 percent more compared to the same period of 2019, Trend reports citing the statistical report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

According to the report, the total number of transactions with payment cards during the mentioned period reached 20.4 million, an increase of 37.4 percent over the year, including 2.6 million transactions worth 128 million manat ($75.2 million) outside the country.

The number of transactions on debit cards (both within the country and abroad) amounted to 17.3 million worth over 2.29 million manat ($1.34 million), of which 6.8 million transactions worth 1.66 million manat ($976,470) were carried out through ATMs inside the country, and through POS terminals - 3.27 million transactions worth 254 million manat ($149.4 million), said the report.

At the same time, bank customers carried out 3.15 million transactions on credit cards (both within the country and abroad) with a total value of 179 million manat ($105.2 million). Also, 261,000 transactions worth 42 million manat ($24.7 million) were carried out using ATMs inside the country, 1.35 million transactions worth 72 million manat ($42.3 million) - using POS terminals inside the country.

As of late November 2020, the number of payment cards increased by 26.8 percent compared to the same period of 2019, reaching 9.14 million units.
