Cash exchange operations in Azerbaijan were conducted mainly in the US dollar, British pound sterling, euro, and Russian ruble by early December 2020, Trend reports citing the statistical report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).
“As of December 1, 2020, local banks purchased $1.04 billion and ensured the sale of over $3.14 billion. Over the year, the purchase of the dollar through banks decreased by 37.1 percent, while the sale increased by 35.1 percent,” the CBA report said.
Along with this, a purchase of more than 10.3 million British pounds was made, which shows an increase in annual terms of 20.1 percent. The sale by banks of the British currency was estimated at over 18.3 million pounds, down 30.2 percent over the year.
Moreover, local banks bought 70.6 million euros, a decrease in annual circulation by 2.8 times, and sold - 219.5 million euros, a decrease of 2.4 times.
Since early 2020, over 12.6 billion Russian rubles have been purchased, which is 8.6 percent less than by December 1, 2019. The sale of 2.51 billion Russian rubles also shows an annual decline of 23.3 percent.
