Cash exchange operations in Azerbaijan were conducted mainly in the US dollar, British pound sterling, euro, and Russian ruble during 2020, Trend reports citing the statistical report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).
“As of early January 2021, local banks purchased $1.14 billion and ensured the sale of over $3.37 billion. Over the year, the purchase of the dollar through banks decreased by 37.7 percent, while the sale increased by 25.9 percent,” the CBA report said.
Along with this, a purchase of more than 10.79 million British pounds was made, which shows an increase in annual terms of 6.8 percent. The sale by banks of the British currency was estimated at slightly over 19 million pounds, down 37.1 percent over the year.
Moreover, local banks bought 76.9 million euro, a decrease in annual circulation by 2.8 times, and sold – 234.4 million euro, a decrease of 2.5 times.
In 2020, a little over 14 billion Russian rubles have been purchased, which is 6.6 percent less than last year. The sale of 2.67 billion Russian rubles also shows an annual decline of 27 percent.
