Share of public sector employees in Azerbaijan grows in early 2021

The number of hired employees in Azerbaijan's economy reached 1.69 million people as of January 1, 2021, growing by 45,200 persons or 2.7 percent year on year, Trend reports on Feb.9 referring to the State Statistical Committee of the country.

According to the committee, 910,800 of them were employed in the public sector, and 781,000 - in the private sector.

"Some 19.6 percent of wage earners from the total volume in the country were involved in education, 18.5 percent in trade and repair of vehicles, 12.9 percent – industry, 8.3 percent – health and public services, 7.8 percent - construction, 6.6 percent – public administration, defense and social security, 4.5 percent – transport and warehousing, 3.6 percent – agriculture, forestry and fishery, 3.5 percent - professional, scientific and technical activities, 1.7 percent - financial and insurance activities, and 13 percent in other sectors of the economy," said the committee.

In 2020, the average monthly nominal salary of the hired employees in Azerbaijan has grown by nearly 11.4 percent compared to 2019 by reaching 707.3 manat ($416). In terms of the average salary the growth was observed in the mining industry, financial and insurance sectors, scientific and technical activities, information and communications, as well as in the transport and the warehousing sectors.
