Azerbaijan sees annual decrease in deposits of local banks

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr.23

The total volume of deposits in Azerbaijani banks amounted to about 23.8 billion manat ($14 billion) in the first quarter of 2021, which is 1.1 percent less compared to the same period of 2020, Trend reports citing a report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

At the same time, the volume of deposits of non-financial organizations increased by 3.9 percent on an annual basis, totaling over 13.9 billion manat ($8.17 billion).

As reported, deposits of individuals decreased by 1.3 percent over the year - to 8.15 billion manat ($4.79 billion).

“During the reporting period, deposits in foreign currency amounted to 13 billion manat, decreasing by 12.9 percent on an annual basis. Deposits in national currency increased by 18.5 percent year on year - up to 10.7 billion manat ($6.29 billion),” the report said.
