By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

About 9.6 million checks worth 2.58 quadrillion rials (about $61.4 billion) were exchanged in Iran in the 12th month of the last Iranian year (February 19 through March 20, 2021), Trend reports citing the Central Bank of Iran.

According to the statistics, the exchanged checks increased by 11.7 percent in terms of number and by 26.9 percent in terms of value compared to the 11th month of the last Iranian year (January 20, 2020, through February 18, 2021).

"The checks exchanged in the 12th month were mainly registered in Iran’s Tehran Province (31.3 percent in terms of number, 51.1 percent in terms of value), Isfahan Province (11 percent in terms of number, 7.1 percent in terms of value), Razavi Khorasan Province (7.6 in terms of number, 6 percent in terms of value)," the statistics said.

According to the statistics, 8.9 million checks worth 2.27 quadrillion rials (about $54 billion) were received in Iran in the 12th month. This is an increase of 11.8 percent in terms of number and 25.6 percent in terms of value compared to the 11th month.

The CBI noted that about 763,000 checks worth 312 trillion rials (about $7.42 billion) were returned in the 12th month.

The returned checks increased by 9.5 percent in terms of number and by 37.7 percent in terms of value compared to the 11th month.

The reason for the return of checks is the lack of available funds or a deficit. Thus, 736,000 checks worth 302 trillion rials (about $7.19 billion) were returned to Iran for these reasons.

"The checks 96.5 percent in terms of number and value were returned due to lack of available funds or deficit," the statistics said.
