Kazakhstan's banks boost lending to economy

The value of lending allocated by Kazakhstan’s second-tier banks to the country’s economy amounted to 14.7 trillion tenge ($34.4 billion) as of the end of Mar. 2021, which is 1.7 percent more than in Feb. 2021, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s National Bank.

The value of lending to legal persons increased by 1 percent amounting to 7.05 trillion tenge ($16.4 billion), whereas lending value to physical persons was 7.7 trillion tenge ($18.01 billion) which is 2.2 percent more than in Feb. 2021.

According to the bank, the value of tenge-denominated loan value increased by 1.7 percent and amounted to 12.9 trillion tenge ($30.2 billion), whereas the value of foreign currency-denominated loans increased by 1.1 percent to 1.8 trillion tenge ($4.2 billion).

The value of long-term loans amounted to 12.6 trillion tenge in Mar. 2021 ($29.4 billion) which is 1.6 percent more than in Feb. 2021, whereas the value of short-term loans increased by 1.7 percent to 2.1 trillion tenge ($5.03 billion).

Lending to ventures of small entrepreneurship amounted to 2.4 trillion tenge in Mar. 2021 ($5.6 billion), which is 5.1 percent less than in Feb. 2021 and is 16.4 percent of the total value of loans allocated as of Mar. 2021.

The largest share of loans accounts for industry (13.5 percent), trade (11.8 percent), construction (4.2 percent), and transport (3.2 percent).

The weighted average remuneration rate on tenge denominated loans to non-bank legal entities was 11.5 percent in Mar. 2021 compared to 12.5 percent in Mar. 2020, whereas to physical entities it was 17 percent compared to 17.7 percent in Mar. 2020.
