FDA to attract funds to support reforms in Uzbekistan

The partnership agreement for 2021-2025 between the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan (MIFT) and the French Development Agency (FDA) was approved on May 10 in Tashkent, Trend reports referring to the press service of the FDA.

It is reported that during this period FDA plans to attract about one billion euros in the form of loans, technical assistance and grants to support reforms in Uzbekistan.

The signing ceremony took place during the visit of the French Minister-Delegate for Foreign Trade and Economic Attractiveness Frank Riester and in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov.

In accordance with ‘Green Growth and Solidarity’ FDA mandate, as well as under the Paris Agreement on Climate, funds will be allocated for the implementation of joint projects in the field of water supply and sanitation, energy and hydropower, energy-saving technologies using alternative energy sources, agriculture, environmental protection and sustainable resource management including solid waste management, private sector support, and budget support loans.

It was noted that one of the projects in the field of forestry and rural development is expected to be implemented in the Aral Sea region. Also, FDA plans to act in it as a co-financing structure jointly with the European Investment Bank.

Since 2016, FAR has been carrying out seven areas of activity at the level of the government of Uzbekistan. This includes financing projects in various sectors (municipal solid waste, sanitation, hydropower, livestock), as well as loans for budgetary financing (economic and financial management, energy and climate), with a cumulative burst of financial liabilities of more than 630 million euros in the form of sovereign loans.
