Azerbaijan records decrease in lending to industry & production sectors

Lending to the industry and production in Azerbaijan as of early May 2021 has decreased, Trend reports citing the statistics data from the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

According to the CBA, this indicator amounted to 914.8 million manat ($538.1 million), which is by 222.9 million manat $131.1 million (19.6 percent) less compared to the same period of last year.

In the reporting period, 185 million manat ($108.8 million, 20.2 percent of the total lending to industry and production) accounted for the short-term loans. Some 149.8 million manat ($88.1 million) of that amount was allocated in national currency while the share of loans in foreign currency accounted for 35.3 million manat ($20.7 million).

The remaining 720.6 million manat ($423.8 million or 78.4 percent) accounted for long-term loans. Such loans worth 488.7 million manat ($287.4 million) were issued in the national currency, while loans in foreign currency accounted for 231.9 million manat ($136.4 million).

The operations in foreign currency, in general, amounted to 29.2 percent (267.2 million manat or $157.1 million) of the total amount of loans to the industrial and manufacturing sector while in national currency – 638.5 million manat ($375.6 million, or 69.8 percent).

The share of this sphere in lending to the real sector amounted to 6.1 percent, which is by 1.4 percent less in annual terms.

In general, lending to the real sector of the Azerbaijani economy as of early May 2021 made up almost 15 billion manat ($8.8 billion), thus decreasing by 159.3 million manat ($93.7 million, or 1.1 percent) compared to the same period of last year.
