Foreign direct investments in Azerbaijan increase

The total amount of direct investments attracted from abroad to Azerbaijan from January through March 2021 exceeded the same indicator of 2020 by 16.7 percent, Trend reports with reference to the balance of payments of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

The number of direct investments for the reporting period reached $1.4 billion.

The share of the oil and gas sector in the structure of direct investments in the Azerbaijani economy amounted to 89.2 percent.

According to the CBA, the volume of net financial liabilities in the oil and gas sector from January through March 2021 decreased by $28.5 million. The reason is the difference between the attracted investments in the amount of $1.2 billion and the repatriation of capital by $1.3 billion.

During the reporting period, the total amount of direct investments attracted to the Azerbaijani non-oil sector reached $151.5 million, which is 36.1 percent less than in the same period of 2020.
