Georgia sees increase in subsistence minimum

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 18

The amount of subsistence minimum increased in May in Georgia compared to April 2021, Trend reports via the National Statistics Service (GeoStat).

The subsistence minimum for working-age men was 202.8 lari ($64.41) in April. In May, the amount reached 205.8 lari ($65.36). The average consumer subsistence level makes 182.1 lari ($57.83).

In April 2021 the subsistence minimum for the average household increased by 2.8 lari (82 cents) compared to the previous year and stood at 179.6 lari ($52.54).

Compared to the previous month, the minimum amount required for subsistence has increased by 1.8 lari (53 cents) for able-bodied men and 1.5 lari (44 cents) for the average consumer.

The National Statistics Office calculates the value of the subsistence minimum on the basis of the minimum cost of items in the food basket.

The minimum food basket contains 40 different products such as bread, cereals, meat, dairy products, vegetables, and confectionery.
