Total assets of Georgian commercial banks down

The total assets of Georgian commercial banks decreased by 1.58 billion lari ($503.6 million), or 2.7 percent in May, compared to the previous month and amounted to 57.09 billion lari ($18.1 billion) by June 1, 2021, Trend reports via the National Bank of Georgia (NBG).

The share capital of the banking sector is 6.57 billion lari ($2.09 billion), which is 11.5 percent of the total assets of commercial banks.

In addition, according to NBG statistics, bank deposits increased in May 2021 compared to April.

In particular, the volume of bank deposits in May amounted to 837.52 million lari ($266.9 million), while in April, this figure was 768.63 million lari ($245 million).

Non-bank deposits decreased from 35.62 million lari ($11.3 million) to 35.41 million lari ($11.2 million) in May compared to April.

As of June 1, 2021, the banking sector of Georgia is represented by 15 commercial banks.
