Liabilities of Azerbaijani banking sector increase

The total liabilities of the banking sector in Azerbaijan increased by 8.8 percent by early June 2021 compared to the same period of 2020, Trend reports with reference to the statistics report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

In accordance with the report, the total liabilities of the country's banks reached 29.05 billion manat ($17.08 billion).

The biggest part (75.9 percent) in the structure of liabilities accounted for deposits (excluding deposits of financial institutions), the volume of which increased by 10.6 percent for the year, amounting to 22.06 billion manat ($12.9 billion).

At the same time, a big part (61.6 percent) accounted for the deposits of legal entities in the amount of 13.6 billion manat $8 billion (an increase of 9.6 percent), of which 11.3 billion manat ($6.6 billion) accounted for demand deposits.

Individuals' deposits increased by 12.3 percent, amounting to 8.5 billion manat ($5 billion), of which about 58.8 percent accounted for term deposits in the amount of 4.9 billion manat ($2.9 billion). Deposits of financial institutions have reached one billion manat ($588 million).

The banks' liabilities to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan amounted to 371.3 million manat ($218.4 million), which is by 26.4 million manat ($15.5 million) less than in the same period of 2020. Loro accounts are estimated at 286.4 million manat ($168.5 million).

The volume of loans from banks and other financial institutions exceeded 2.2 billion manat ($1.3 billion), increase of 6.3 percent in annual terms.

The issued securities of the country's banks in a total volume amounted to 1.7 billion manat ($1 billion), or 5.9 percent of the total amount of liabilities. Other liabilities amounted to about 1.4 billion manat ($823 million).

The total capital of banks increased by 4.2 percent and amounted to 4.7 billion manat ($2.8 billion) as of early June. At the same time, the own capital exceeded 4.4 billion manat ($2.6 billion) and capital reserves - 330.6 million manat ($194.5 million).
