Azerbaijan sees growth in 1H2021 cashless transactions

The volume of non-cash transactions in Azerbaijan has increased from January to June 2021, Trend reports referring to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

According to the CBA, this indicator reached 4.3 billion manat ($2.5 billion), up by 57 percent compared to the first half of last year.

Nearly 2.3 billion manat ($1.3 billion), or about 53 percent of the non-cash payments, accounted for e-commerce. Another 1.7 billion manat ($1 billion) were sold through POS terminals, and 257 million manat ($151 million) - through ATMs.

The volume of non-cash transactions with payment cards within the country amounted to 28.4 percent of the total volume of transactions.

Besides, a significant increase in the network of payment services of banks is observed in Azerbaijan. So, the number of ATMs in the country grew by 9.1 percent, and POS terminals - by 8.1 percent, compared to last year.

The Central Bank noted that the increase in the number of payment cards has a positive effect on the volume of cashless payments throughout Azerbaijan.

As of early July 2021, the number of payment cards in Azerbaijan rose by 16 percent compared to the same period of last year and exceeded 10 million manat ($5.8 million).
