Non-performing loans in Azerbaijani banks decrease

According to the results of January-August 2021, non-performing loans in Azerbaijani banks decreased by 15.1 percent, or 161.2 million manat ($94.8 million), year-on-year, from about 1 billion manat ($588.2 million) to 904.2 million manat ($531.8 million), Trend reports, citing the statistical bulletin of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

The loan portfolio of banks and non-bank credit organizations (NBCO) increased by 922.9 million manat ($542.8 million), or 6.3 percent, over the year and amounted to 15.6 billion manat ($9.1 billion), compared to 14.6 billion manat ($8.5 billion) in 2020.

The share of state-owned banks in loans issued amounted to 2.9 billion manat ($1.7 billion), or 18.6 percent of the total portfolio.

The share of private banks amounted to 12.3 billion manat ($7.2 billion), or 78.9 percent.

The share of NBCO amounted to 401.2 million manat ($236 million), or 2.6 percent of the total portfolio.

As of the beginning of September, loans issued in manat currency increased by 1.38 billion ($811.7 million), or 13.8 percent, from 10 billion ($5.8 billion) to 11.4 billion manat ($6.7 billion), compared to the same period of 2020, and their share in the loan portfolio of banks increased by 73.2 percent.

In the reporting period, loans issued in foreign currency amounted to more than 4.1 billion manat ($2.4 billion) – a decrease of 459.3 million ($270.1 million), or 9.9 percent over the year, with a share of 26.8 percent of the banks’ loan portfolio.

Short-term loans amounted to about 2 billion manat ($1.1 billion) in manat currency and 763.1 million ($448.8 million) in foreign currency, while long-term loans in manat currency reached 9.4 billion ($5.5 billion) and 3.4 billion manat ($2 billion) in foreign currency.
