By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

About 7.3 million checks worth 2.5 quadrillion rials (about $59.5 billion) were exchanged in Iran in the 6th month of the current Iranian year (August 23 through September 22, 2021), Trend reports citing the Central Bank of Iran (CBI).

According to the statistics, the exchanged checks increased by 23.5 percent in terms of value and by 5.5 percent in terms of number compared to the 5th month of the current Iranian year (July 23 through August 22, 2021).

"The checks exchanged in the 6th month were mainly registered in Iran’s Tehran Province (30.1 percent in terms of number, 51 percent in terms of value), Isfahan Province (11.1 percent in terms of number, 7.1 percent in terms of value), Razavi Khorasan Province (7.2 percent in terms of number, 5.1 percent in terms of value)," the statistics said.

According to the statistics, 6.6 million checks worth 2.18 quadrillion rials (about $52 billion) were received in Iran in the 6th month. This is an increase of 26.7 percent in terms of value and 6.7 percent in terms of number, compared to the 5th month.

The CBI noted that about 709,000 checks worth 314 trillion rials (about $7.5 billion) were returned in the 6th month.

The returned checks increased by 5 percent in terms of value, while decreased by 4.4 percent in terms of number compared to the 5th month.

The reason for the return of checks is the lack of available funds or a deficit. Thus, 686,000 checks worth 302 trillion rials (about $7.19 billion) were returned in Iran for these reasons in the 6th month.

"The checks 96.1 percent in terms of value and 96.7 in terms of number were returned due to lack of available funds or deficit," the statistics said.
