Problem loans in Azerbaijani banks decrease for year

The problem loans in Azerbaijani banks decreased by 18.9 percent in Azerbaijan from 1.006 billion manat ($591 million) to 815.9 million manat ($479.9 million) from January through October 2021 compared to the same period of last year, Trend reports with reference to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

The loan portfolio of banks and non-bank credit organizations for the year increased by 1.6 billion manat $941 million (11 percent) and amounted to 16.4 billion manat ($9.6 billion) compared to 14.8 billion manat ($8.7 billion) a year earlier.

The share of loans issued by state banks in the total volume of loans amounted to 19.2 percent (3.1 billion manat $1.8 billion), private banks - 78.04 percent (12.8 billion manat $7.5 billion), non-bank credit organizations - 2.5 percent (418.6 million manat $246.2 million).

The loans issued in the national currency amounted to 11.9 billion manat ($7 billion) from January through October 2021 compared to 10.2 billion manat ($6 billion) a year earlier while the share of those loans in the loan portfolio of banks increased by 72.6 percent.

The loans in foreign currency were issued in the amount of more than 4.5 billion manat ($2.6 billion) in the reporting period (a decrease of 29.3 million manat $17.2 million or 0.64 percent for the year) with a weight of 27.42 percent in the loan portfolio of banks.

Short-term loans amounted to 2.1 billion manat ($1.2 billion) in national currency and 946.5 million manat ($556.8 million) in foreign currency, while long-term loans in national and foreign currencies reached 9.7 billion manat ($5.7 billion) and 3.5 billion manat ($2.05 billion), respectively.
