Iran to announce regulations on using cryptocurrencies for import

TEHRAN, Iran, August 15. The Central Bank of Iran (CBI) is announcing the regulations on the use of cryptocurrencies for placing orders for import next week, said the Governor of the CBI Ali Salehabadi, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

The Central Bank of Iran (CBI) and the Ministry of Industries, Mine, and Trade prepared regulations for use of cryptocurrencies to place orders for imports, he said.

Speaking in a TV interview, Salehi stressed that buying and selling cryptocurrencies as an investment is banned but mining crypto for placing orders for import is possible.

The official has also indicated that the pilot plan to launch crypto rial in Iran will start on August 23 and people can replace the national digital currency with banknotes.

Iran placed its first official import order using cryptocurrency valued at $10 million.
