ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, December 1. The total volume of deposits attracted by banks in Turkmenistan in the national currency from January through August 2023 amounted to 157.09 billion Turkmen manat ($31.9 billion), of which 22.27 billion Turkmen manat ($6.36 billion) were attracted in August alone, Trend reports.
According to the Central Bank of Turkmenistan, of the total volume of attracted deposits, bank deposits of legal entities for the first eight months of this year amounted to 128.9 billion Turkmen manat ($36.79 billion).
Furthermore, bank deposits of individuals in the first eight months of 2023 amounted to 28.18 billion Turkmen manat ($8.04 billion), which is 13.5 percent less than in the same months of last year (32.59 billion Turkmen manat, or $9.3 billion).
In addition, in 2022, banks in Turkmenistan garnered a sum of 872.64 billion Turkmen manat ($249.31 billion) in deposits denominated in the national currency, featuring an average interest rate of 0.31 percent.
Meanwhile, according to the Central Bank of Turkmenistan, the official exchange rate of the Turkmen manat against the US dollar on December 1, 2023, is set at 3.5 manat per USD.
